Beginning a career in ultrasound is an excellent investment. The field of medical imaging is expanding at a rapid pace, and ultrasound is moving along with it. Being an ultrasound technologist allows for a large amount of flexibility in different areas of specialties, finding jobs across the country, and even hours that are offered. A career in ultrasound is great for an individual looking to really progress in a career, or for the mom who is just needed a couple hours a week for that extra income. By being a part of the diagnostic imaging field with ultrasound, you will be someone who directly interacts with patients, so you can feel fulfilled with helping people every day. You will also be able to work with radiologists to help with diagnoses on each ultrasound examination. Also, with being an ultrasound technologist, you will find the technology in ultrasound is rapidly changing. Within the passed few years, 3-D and 4-D ultrasound has become a significant part of the field. 3-D and 4-D images help with diagnosing fetal facial and spinal abnormalities. There are also other areas that are quickly growing in in this field as well. Ultrasound is now used for vascular abdominal, gynecological, breast, and fetal heart scans. There are very few careers out there that are as promising or progressing as rapidly as ultrasound.
